Iopa’s Next Community Call

Join us for the Internet of Production Alliance’s (Iopa) next Community Call!

For the first Community Call of the year, we will focus on the research moving toward the development of a maker passport in support of the pan-African maker innovation system (mAKE). The IOPA recently joined a Consortium of 9 partners from Africa and the EU working on the mAkE project. Funded by the European Horizon 2020 programme, the overall objective of  mAkE  is to strengthen existing networks of makerspaces as key drivers for local digital innovation in Africa and establish mutual and sustainable networks with European Digital Innovation Hubs.

The discussion, led by Andrew Lamb, will be the occasion to demonstrate the opportunity for the IOPA to conduct research and develop tools in the service of makers and makerspaces. Our research and Community lead Sarah Hutton will present her research progress towards the development of a People and Skills Standard and how necessary it is for individual makers to participate in and easily navigate a distributed manufacturing ecosystem. This navigation will be enabled by using a digital ‘maker passport,’ the criteria for which will be defined by members of the maker community. An immediate use case for this work is the application to the open system infrastructure developed as part of the mAkE project.
