14:45-15:00 CET
This year 4 African makers traveled to European cities for a month to experience their makerspace culture and develop innovative prototypes. We want to present what we learned, what we would like to do as future residency projects we’re fundraising for – all with the aim to create meaningful global exchange and to improve open source projects together.

A Common Policy Agenda for Makerspaces
15:30 -15:45 CET
Makerspaces are community-driven hubs for local production and empowerment, but often they go unnoticed by policymakers and that shows in (un)available funding programmes. As a follow-up to our workshop at last year’s Seminar, we can now present a common policy agenda as a tool for steering policy engagements for makerspaces. It is a result of mAkE, a Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation project, funded by the European Union.

About Vulca Seminars
The annual meeting of European Makerspaces, FabLabs, and Open Workshops, organized by VULCA, will be hosted by ZAM – Zentrum für Austausch und Machen in Erlangen, Germany. This year’s main topic, “We and our city: the relation between us and our environment,” emphasizes the symbiotic relationship between makerspaces and their urban ecosystems. The event gathers 150 participants from diverse backgrounds to discuss, network, and collaborate on solving collective problems. In collaboration with the German network of open workshops (Verbund offner Werkstätten), it focuses on community interconnection.
